A Salem police officer shot a man Monday morning while attempting to take him into custody.
The Salem Police Department reported the man was being treated at Salem Health. Police identified the man Tuesday morning as 34-year-old Andrew Erling Kjostad, but at that time they had not released any information on his medical condition.
Police say Kjostad was wanted for shooting a Marion County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle on Sunday. No deputies were injured.
Oregon State Police are investigating the Monday morning shooting, along with the Marion County District Attorney’s Office.
It was the third time in less than a week that an Oregon law enforcement officer shot a suspect. In the other two cases, both in Clackamas County, the suspects died.
