One dead, one injured in downtown Portland shooting

One person died and another was injured in a shooting near a busy downtown Portland intersection Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting was reported near Southwest 10th Avenue and Alder Street at around 4:30 p.m.

Responding officers said they found two victims who are believed to be adult males. One patient died at the scene. The other was taken to a nearby hospital.

Portland police arrested 46-year-old Geoffrey E. Hammond in connection with the shooting. Charges against him include murder, attempted murder and first-degree assault.

Police have not released the names of the victims or details on what led up to the shooting.
