Police were called around 8 p.m. to a report of someone screaming for help at the Golden Knight Motel near downtown Gresham. Arriving officers found a man armed with a knife and forcing his way into a room. They say they ordered him to drop the knife but he would not comply.

The man was actively stabbing the victim when officers entered the room, according to Gresham police. Two officers shot and killed the man. The stabbing victim was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive. Police have not released the identities of the victim, the suspect or the officers.

Various Multnomah County policing agencies, as well as the Oregon State Police, are reviewing the shooting.
