Several campgrounds in the Deschutes National Forest will not open in time for Friday.

Forest service officials announced Tuesday that lingering snowpack has delayed pre-season inspections and hazardous tree removal at eight campgrounds. Trapper Creek Campground will see a delayed opening, along with seven sites in the Cascade Lakes area.

Visitors with reservations at the affected campgrounds through May 30 will see cancellations and refunds as soon as Tuesday.

Officials say several other campgrounds will be open for Memorial Day weekend. A full list is available at the Deschutes National Forest website.

According to AAA Oregon, the Bend area is expected to be the most popular regional destination for Oregonians over the holiday weekend.
