Former Oregon high school basketball star Cameron Brink is heading to her first Olympics.
USA Basketball announced Wednesday that Brink will be on the roster for the 3-on-3 Women’s National Team set to compete in Paris this summer. Joining Brink is Cierra Burdick, Rhyne Howard and Hailey Van Lith.
“I’m most excited to be an Olympian,” Brink said in a video statement posted by USA Basketball. “It’s been a dream my whole life, and the opportunity to win a gold medal, especially with this group, honestly I can’t even put it to words. It’s insane.”
The 6-foot-4 forward played her high school basketball at Mountainside and Southridge high schools in Beaverton, Oregon. Brink then went on to win multiple accolades at Stanford, including a national championship in 2021. She was the second overall pick in this year’s WNBA draft and now plays for the Los Angeles Sparks.
The 3-on-3 game debuted at the Olympics in 2021 when Team USA won the inaugural gold medal in the women’s competition. According to USA Basketball, 3-on-3 basketball is a half-court game with a 10-minute game clock. Baskets are worth one and two points, and the first team to score 21 points is the winner. If no team has reached 21 points when the buzzer sounds, the leading team wins.
The president of the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, Jennifer Rizzoti, will serve as head coach for the team.
“I say this all the time but there is no greater privilege than to represent the USA at the Olympics,” Rizzotti said in a statement. “We understand that challenge in front of us as we face tremendous talent and experienced 3x3 teams. I am confident this roster gives us what we need to compete for another gold medal with experience, versatility and a commitment to USA Basketball excellence.”
USA Basketball will send four teams total to the 2024 Olympic Games: 5-on-5 men and women and 3-on-3 men and women. The 2024 Olympics 3-on-3 basketball competition is scheduled for July 30 through Aug. 5 in Paris.
