A Lincoln County deputy shot and killed someone in the coastal community of Waldport Sunday night.

According to the county sheriff’s office, the deputy responded to reports that someone was firing a rifle from a house in the 1000 block of Southeast Rolph Court. A person emerged from the house carrying a firearm, and the deputy shot them, the sheriff’s office said.

The person shot was pronounced dead while being transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said a firearm was recovered from the scene, and the Lincoln City Police Department will lead an investigation into the events of Sunday night. Officials have not identified the deputy involved, nor the person who was shot and killed.

There have been at least two other recent deadly law enforcement shootings in Lincoln County, one in September and another in October. Those both involved Lincoln City police.
