The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat watch from Tuesday afternoon to late Wednesday evening for the greater Portland-Vancouver metro area. The heat advisory extends though the Willamette Valley, the Columbia River Gorge, Douglas County, Eastern Curry County, Josephine County and Jackson County.
Forecasters warn areas stretching from Southwest Washington to the central Willamette Valley could see dangerously hot conditions on Tuesday with temperatures possibly reaching 105 degrees Fahrenheit.
The heat is on next week! The first Extreme Heat Watches of the season have been issued for next Tuesday & Wednesday, but what's the difference between a Watch and a Warning? A Watch means "Be Prepared" while a Warning means "Take Action!" #orwx #wawx pic.twitter.com/dyL8OYIIUe

“This level of heat would affect anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration,” the NWS area forecast discussion stated Friday.
Heat-related illnesses increase significantly during times of extreme heat, according to the weather service.
People within the watch area are urged to drink plenty of fluids, limit time outdoors and check up on relatives and neighbors.
For those without air conditioning, officials suggest using fans to keep air moving and closing windows during the day to prevent hot air from entering your home.
The extreme heat watch also includes parts of the Columbia River Gorge, including the Corbett area as well as the Hood River, Lower Columbia River and Cowlitz River valleys.
