This weekend, several bridges in Portland will be closed as the annual Providence Bridge Pedal community bike ride kicks off.
Starting Saturday at 6 p.m., officials will shut down portions of the Hawthorne Bridge as crews work to set up the event.
Those closures will continue into Sunday through at least 12:30 p.m. All eastbound traffic lanes, the center westbound lane and the Southeast Water Avenue ramp will be closed.
The Morrison and Sellwood bridges will also have closures from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday. And cyclists and walkers will be crossing the Fremont, Marquam and Steel bridges.
The event, which is celebrating its 29th year, is expected to draw thousands of people from across the world.
