Two major Oregon ski resorts opened Tuesday after warm, wet weather delayed the season’s opening.
Mt. Bachelor in Bend and Mt. Hood Meadows, about 60 miles east of Portland, both opened to the public for winter recreation Tuesday. Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort in Eastern Oregon and Mount Hood’s Timberline Lodge are already open for the season, and more could open by the end of the week.
Three inches of snow fell overnight Monday at Mt. Bachelor to accumulate to 19 inches at the base, the Central Oregon resort said on its website. The resort is also banking on a forecast of colder weather and light snow through the week.

John Merriman is the general manager at Mt. Bachelor. He says the opening comes just in time for Tuesday’s “Piano Flow Live” night, where people can ski under both stars and candlelight to the music of pianist, Paula Dreyer.
“That’s right in our Nordic area where you can come, and ski around and put headphones on, listen to a pianist who’s going to be playing up at the lodge,” he said. “It’s a fantastic event.”
The resort website provides a report on which trails and lifts are open.
Meanwhile, Mt. Hood Meadows opened four of its lifts Tuesday, including Buttercup, Daisy, Easy Rider and Ballroom Carpet.
On Saturday, Timberline Lodge, also on Mount Hood, opened limited terrain on its beginner’s lift, Bruno, and another lift, Pucci.
Over the next week to 10 days, more storms are expected to come through Oregon, producing snow at higher elevations.
