A new measles case has been identified in Clackamas County, according to the Oregon Health Authority.
Health officials say the person infected is unvaccinated. As of now, officials haven’t yet determined whether the individual has traveled outside of Oregon.
It’s the third case of measles reported so far this year in the state. The previous cases were reported in Linn County earlier this week. Officials don’t know whether any of the cases are linked.
Health officials are working to identify people who may have been in contact with the infected person and potentially exposed to the virus. OHA isn’t aware of any public exposure locations.
The health authority is encouraging people to make sure they’re up-to-date on their vaccinations and protected against the virus.
Measles is highly contagious and typically begins with fever-like symptoms, followed usually by a rash.
The virus can be dangerous, especially for infants and children younger than 5, pregnant people and those with weakened immune systems.
