Portland police are asking people who live near the location where two officers were shot Monday night to share security camera footage.

One of two police officers who were shot Monday night near Lloyd Center in Northeast Portland has been released from the hospital, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

A seven-year police veteran assigned to North Precinct was released from the hospital, Portland police said on Tuesday afternoon.

A second officer, who is a 17-year veteran also assigned to North Precinct, remains hospitalized. He is expected to survive.

The police bureau did not specify which hospital the officers were treated at, nor did they release the injured officers’ identities.

The shooting suspect remains at large, police said.

Detectives are asking people who live or work near the shooting location, from Northeast 15th Avenue to Northeast 19th Avenue and Northeast Broadway to Northeast Multnomah Street, to share any saved security footage taken between 7 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Officials said the suspect may be armed and encouraged Portlanders to forward any possible leads.

Around 8:21 p.m. Monday, a 911 caller reported they were threatened with a knife by an unknown man near Northeast 21st Avenue and Clackamas Street. Police from the North Precinct found the suspect on Clackamas Street between 16th and 17th avenues.

Bureau officials couldn’t detail exactly how the interaction played out, but said the man opened fire. No officers returned fire, according to Portland Police Deputy Chief Chris Gjovik. The encounter was recorded on the officers’ body-worn cameras, but that footage has not yet been released.

“I don’t know specifically what was said. I have not reviewed the body camera footage. That’s all being handled by detectives,” Gjovik said.

Portland police say they are looking for this suspect in the shooting of two officers near Lloyd Center on Jan. 19, 2026.

The shooting led to a massive, bureau-wide response. Police set up a large perimeter near Lloyd Center that shut down city blocks between Northeast Broadway and Multnomah streets, from 15th to 21st avenues.

The bureau dispatched several special teams to the scene, including its crisis negotiation team and personnel tasked with flying drones to help search the area.

Portland Mayor Keith Wilson and Portland Police Chief Bob Day also responded to the incident.

“This is a stark reminder of the dangers of the job,” Wilson said in a press conference that was streamed at KGW.com. “The jobs that our officers go out every day to serve and protect our community, and we’re grateful for.

“We’re very concerned for the officers that were shot ... We wish them a speedy recovery, and we send them our prayers.”

The bureau ended its initial search early Tuesday morning, and police reopened the streets that had been closed overnight. Bureau spokesperson Mike Benner said they received “numerous tips” since the shooting.

Police described the suspect as a white man in his mid-30s with facial hair, wearing a black baseball cap, a black jacket over a gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes.

They said he was armed with a knife and a handgun. He was seen carrying a black backpack and a green shopping bag.

The Portland Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation because deadly force was used against officers. The shooter will likely face charges of attempted murder.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to email homicide detectives or call them at 503-823-0479 and reference case number 26-18537.
