Update 4:42 p.m. Monday: The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office has identified the climber killed in the accident as 30-year-old Thomas N. Hostetler of Portland.

A climber died on Mount Hood Sunday, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said witnesses reported just before 10 a.m. Sunday seeing the climber fall an estimated 300 feet. It happened near the Devil’s Kitchen area of the mountain.
The climber was dead when rescue crews arrived.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released the climber’s name or any additional information about the fall.
Portland Mountain Rescue and the American Medical Response Reach and Treat Team assisted with the recovery effort.
