Musser views the home's electric power output. This is the third home that Musser and his wife have retrofitted to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels that contribute to climate change. The conversion for their current home took over a year to complete and cost about $50,000.

Musser said he understands not everyone can afford to make the same upgrades he did; the cost of some appliances and retrofits are still high, despite rebates and other incentives offered to make the switch.
