Teachers in Battle Ground have ratified a new two-year contract with the district, following negotiations that began last spring.
More than 97 percent of Battle Ground teachers voted to approve the new contract.
About 850 teachers and staff will be covered under the new deal. The last contract expired in August.
“It is fantastic news," said Linda Peterson, president of the Battle Ground Education Association. “Our membership proved to be unbelievably supportive of the negotiation team.”
The Battle Ground School Board votes Monday on whether to approve the contract.
Peterson wouldn’t discuss details of the contract until it’s signed. Superintendent Mark Hottowe also declined to comment until after the school board’s vote.
Throughout the negotiations, the union said it wanted a reduction in class sizes, more pay and one full-time counselor at each elementary school.
