Harney County Residents Come Together For Fair

Each year, residents from across Harney County come together for the county fair. It boasts farm animal exhibitions, carnival rides, arts and crafts contests, music, sticky and delicious food and of course, the rodeo.

The occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge was tumultuous for the community, and in many ways Harney County is still feeling the aftereffects.

But at the fair, few people were talking about Ammon Bundy, the ongoing federal trial for the occupiers, or federal lands management.

They were bidding on the neighbor kid's pig at the livestock auction, sharing a pint in the beer garden, or cheering for the new rodeo queen.


