Three men stranded on an uninhabited Pacific island got the "HELP" they were seeking Thursday, when a U.S. Navy maritime surveillance aircraft spotted their signal in the sand, according to a release from the U.S. Coast Guard.

The men spelled out "HELP" on the beach using palm fronds and waved life vests. They reported their skiff capsized shortly after going out to sea from Pulap — part of the Federated States of Micronesia.

The naval aircraft operating out of Japan located the men on the island of Fanadik — a bit more than twice the distance from Oregon to Hawaii — after the Coast Guard called for assistance, according to the release.

A small boat from Pulap rescued the men from the island uninjured.
