Police Shoot And Kill Suspect In Portland's Pearl District

Portland police shot and killed a man in the stairwell of the parking garage at the Lovejoy Building, which holds the Safeway store in Portland's Pearl District.

Shoppers and others who had been inside reported hearing a disturbance, and then seeing a woman who was bleeding outside the building.

Police confirmed that they arrived after a report that a man was armed with a knife and threatening to have a bomb. They found a man and woman in the stairwell, and the woman appeared injured.

The police bureau says they used both non-lethal and lethal force. The male suspect was confirmed to have died before medical help arrived. The injured woman was taken to a hospital. Officials determined there was no explosive at the scene. No identities have been released yet.
