"The name of the deceased nor the name of involved officer will be released at this time," the county said.

A Goodwill spokesperson told the Salem Statesman-Journal that there were 25-30 customers inside the store and nearly that many staff, when the shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives from the sheriff's office were part of Polk County Inter-Agency Narcotics Team, or POINT team, so they're not able to investigate the shooting. The POINT team includes multiple jurisdictions, including police officers from Dallas, Monmouth and Independence, as well as the members of the Oregon State Police.

The investigation into the shooting will be handled by the Salem Police Department.
