Utility district spokesman Thomas Stredwick said the employees were injured Thursday afternoon in a possible electrical explosion at the dam. The six have various levels of injuries with some flown to area hospitals and others transported by ambulance for treatment.

Stredwick said the structure of the dam is stable and no one down the river is at risk.

Multiple agencies have responded to the incident including the Hanford Fire Department.

The Priest Rapids Dam opened in 1959 and is operated by the Grant County Public Utility District. It’s located about 20 miles south of Interstate 90.

The Labor and Industries investigation is expected to take several weeks.
