Oregon’s largest university is looking for its next president.

THANKS TO OUR SPONSOR:

By this time next year, Wim Wiewel won’t be PSU’s president any more and he’ll have served nine years by then.

Portland State’s Board of Trustees has now taken two steps toward filling that void.

Trustees put 21 people on a search committee, including University of Oregon president Michael Schill and Oregon Health and Science University president Joe Robertson. Nearly half of PSU’s Board will be on it, as well as students, faculty and staff.

The board also hired Isaacson, Miller, a search firm based in Boston.

PSU leaders have faced student activism in recent years, over rising tuition and armed campus police. Wiewel intends to focus in large part on funding in his last year.

A PSU statement mentioned Wiewel will work on implementing the university's strategic plan, as well as "increasing revenues to maintain quality and affordability for students."
