A major section of Woodgrain Mill's roof collapsed over the cut shop in November 2014. No one was hurt, but Woodgrain subsequently decided to shut down much of the mill.

Woodgrain Millwork in Prineville announced Friday it will lay off 55 workers and close the remainder of its Prineville facility.
The mill had already shut down much of its operations after a major portion of the mill's roof collapsed last November. Nearly 200 workers lost their jobs a few days before Thanksgiving.
Last spring, former Woodgrain workers told OPB about a number of conditions they saw as potential safety hazards at the mill before the roof collapsed.
Woodgrain's pellet mill remained in operation after the incident. But in a notice to the state's Dislocated Workers Unit, the company says the plant is no longer financially viable.
Woodgrain says it will close in January and the layoffs will begin in late December.
