OPB has welcomed Jess Hazel (they/them) to the organization as the new host of OPB’s “Morning Edition” on OPB Radio.

Hazel comes to OPB with deep hosting experience, serving as “Morning Edition” host most recently at KRCC in Colorado Springs and previously at Yellowstone Public Radio in Billings, Montana.

“Morning Edition” is the most listened-to news radio program in the country, with multi-faceted stories and commentaries drawing on reporting from correspondents based around the world and across the U.S. “Morning Edition” airs on OPB Radio every weekday from 5-9 a.m.

Hazel can be currently heard on the air alongside OPB’s Casey Negreiff, who continues to deliver the latest news each day on the program.

Hazel was selected for the host position following longtime OPB “Morning Edition” Host Geoff Norcross’ move to OPB’s “All Things Considered.” Norcross can now be heard in the afternoons as co-host of the program with OPB’s Crystal Ligori.

“I’m looking forward to sharing every morning with OPB’s listeners,” said Hazel. “I know I have some big shoes to fill, and I’m thrilled to be joining a community that’s so passionate about public radio.”

In addition to their work at KRCC and Yellowstone Public Radio, Hazel also worked at Montana Public Radio as a fill-in host and as a development intern. They began their career in radio at KBGA College Radio in Missoula, Montana serving as program director and volunteer coordinator DJing several shows.

Hazel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Montana. In their free time, they enjoy reading, listening to live music, tabletop role playing games and video games.
