In early August, lavender on Oregon’s farms is in the height of its purple glory, and with Mount Hood crowning the horizon, Lavender Valley Farm in Parkdale is especially scenic. The farm grows and distils lavender using a steam extraction process. The resulting essential oil and "hydrosol" lavender water are then applied in a huge variety of ways, making it one of the most useful as well as loveliest flowers grown in Oregon.
