Doctors at Oregon Health & Science University said during a press conference Monday that Fatemeh Reshad’s heart function now looks good and she’s recovering in the ICU.

Her uncle, Sam Taghizadeh, said the parents are also doing well.

“My sister couldn’t believe this is happening. She’s in shock. How the people are helping. Every single person came and is helping as a family,” Taghizadeh said.

Iranian doctors told the family weeks ago that the 4-month-old needed at least one urgent operation to correct serious heart defects.

The family had an appointment in Dubai to get a tourist visa, but it was canceled after the president announced an executive order banning entry for people from seven countries.

The girl and her parents had to return to Iran, but a travel wavier was secured after an outpouring of concern and a stay on the immigration order pursued by Washington state.
