Lt. Rich Tyler said fire officials are investigating a small blaze in the city's Forest Park as a "suspicious" fire.

"It doesn't look like it was started by lightning or any other natural causes, meaning people," said Tyler. "Somebody had to something to do with it.

About 30 firefighters responded to the incident near the Wildwood Trail not far from the Pittock Mansion and was contained by 11:30 a.m. At its largest the fire was roughly 100 feet by 50 feet. It was visible from Interstate 5.

In the afternoon, Tyler said Portland firefighters also responded to a slightly larger fire on Government Island on the Columbia River. Crews had to use boats to reach the blaze, which was contained by mid afternoon. Three people were evacuated from the island.
