The city may beat the record Friday

Portland is once again in the heat-related record books.

Tuesday marked 88 days when the temperature in the Rose City reached 80 degrees. That matches the record number of 80-degree-plus days set in 2015.

David Bishop, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says the likelihood of beating that record lessens as the weather turns more fall-like.

”The average number of 80 degree or higher days in the month of September is around nine,” Bishop said. “Looking at the same data set, in October the average number of days over 80 is one.”

Still, forecasts show temperatures could hit the mid-80s in the Portland region this Friday. So 2021 could still set a new standard for warm years.
