Police shoot, injure man in Southeast Portland

A man was shot and injured by Portland police in the city’s southeast Reed neighborhood, roughly two miles from Reed College, early Saturday.

Officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 5000 block of Southeast Powell Boulevard around 12:30 a.m., according to a press release.

They found a vehicle matching the description associated with the reported armed robbery driving in the area. Police say the person behind the wheel was driving recklessly. The vehicle stopped in a parking lot on Southeast Steele Street, where “officers attempted to contact the occupants” then “an officer involved shooting happened,” the release reads.

One man was injured and sent to the hospital. Police detained the remaining occupants of the vehicle.

The Portland Police Bureau didn’t provide details on the current condition of the man who was shot, or what prompted a police officer to shoot him. The bureau didn’t provide details on how many shots were fired, nor how many officers fired their weapons.
