On Wednesday, iconic Pacific Northwest riot grrrl band Sleater-Kinney kicked off the 2024 edition of PDX Live, an annual summer concert series that takes place in Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square. Prior to the band’s performance, Australia’s Amyl and the Sniffers took the stage and played songs including “Capital” and “Freaks to the Front.”
For Sleater-Kinney, the concert also served as the group’s first show since a series of cancellations after singer-guitarist Carrie Brownstein was diagnosed with a chest infection. The show brought the band’s 2024 record, “Little Rope,” to the forefront with live renditions of songs like “Small Finds” and “Say It Like You Meant It” (which featured a string quartet).

The band’s Corin Tucker also used this as an opportunity to promote Kamala Harris’ campaign for U.S. president and highlight concerns around reproductive choices being “banned all across the United States” if Donald Trump came to power.
Portland’s “living room” will continue to be the host to multiple concerts until Aug. 21, under the umbrella of PDX Live. The concert series will include shows by artists such as Yo La Tengo, Sierra Ferrell and Ethel Cain.
