Snow and other wintry conditions are expected for much of the North and Central Cascades regions in Oregon over the next couple of days.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Cascades ranging from Southwest Washington all the way south to Oakridge in Lane County, Oregon, in effect Sunday through early Monday.
The Santiam and Willamette passes could both see 2-6 inches of snowfall through Monday morning. There’s a chance areas above 5,000 feet in elevation could see nearly a foot of snow, especially north of the Three Sisters.
The Timberline Lodge reported Monday afternoon that it had received 7 inches of snow in the previous 24 hours.
David Bishop, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland, said temperatures are expected to dip in some areas of the Willamette Valley later this week. The Upper Hood River Valley currently has a freeze watch in effect, with conditions just above freezing.
“If there are sensitive plants outside, it’d be worth keeping an eye on what the overnight lows are and take precautions,” Bishop said.
