A stretch of Interstate 205 between West Linn and Oregon City will close in both directions overnight at the end of this week.
The Oregon Department of Transportation said it will close the Abernethy Bridge on I-205 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday to Saturday and then again Saturday into Sunday to install a massive road sign above the freeway.
The ramp from Highway 99-E to 205 southbound will be closed, and so will the Oregon 43 ramp to 205 northbound.
Local drivers can use the Highway 43 Arch Bridge to cross between Oregon City and West Linn while I-205’s Abernethy Bridge is closed. Regional drivers can bypass the closure by using Highways 224 and 99-E to connect to Interstate 5.

This work is part of a bigger $800 million project to upgrade the bridge and make it more earthquake resistant. There will probably be two more overnight closures in the coming weeks to install the sign, ODOT said.
Work on the larger seismic upgrade project started in 2022 and will continue into 2026.
