Elena covers Southwest Washington for OPB. Before that, they worked as a reporter and producer for KAZU public radio in Monterey, California, where they covered agriculture, homelessness, and the aftermath of a giant battery plant fire. Elena has a master's degree from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor's degree in Politics and Latin American and Latino Studies from UC Santa Cruz.
