A man killed his mother and stepfather, his girlfriend and his 9-month-old daughter late Saturday before Clackamas County deputies shot and killed him.

Police said they received a domestic violence call to a home on the 32000 block of South Barlow Road, in rural Woodburn, around 10 p.m. Saturday. They arrived to find Mark Leo Gregory Gago, 42, attempting to kill a child when deputies shot him. Four other people were already dead.

It's unclear what weapon or weapons Gago used. Police say the victims were not shot. They found swords and other weapons in the house, and KGW reports a survivor says she woke up to find Gago attacking her with something similar to an axe.
Two people, an 8-year-old girl and an adult woman who also lived in the house, survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
The deceased are:
  • Olivia Lynn Rose Gago, 9 months
  • Shaina E. Sweitzer, 31
  • Jerry William Bremer, 66
  • Pamela Denise Bremer, 64

"Upon arrival, deputies were involved in a deadly force situation in which the homicide suspect was killed," according to a statement from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

Gago, whose address is listed as the South Barlow Road house in recent court records, was due before a judge in March for contempt of court over his repeated failure to pay child support stemming from a 2004 divorce.

He was charged with assault in 2001 and again in 2005, but both those cases were eventually dismissed.
