A U.S. District Court judge in California has halted water releases from the Trinity River into the Klamath River.
The water releases are intended to prevent a fish kill on the lower Klamath River. The Bureau of Reclamation began permitting the extra water flows this week. But now, a court order has temporarily stopped the release.
The court acted after farmers and water districts filed a lawsuit against the federal government challenging the water releases.
Pete Lucero, with the Bureau of Reclamation, says the court order was delivered the same day the water releases were made and was effective immediately.
Lucero says the Bureau of Reclamation is respecting the court order.
