Milwaukie United Natural Foods Facility Closing, Laying Off 280 Employees

A United Natural Foods, Inc. warehouse in Milwaukie is closing and 280 workers are losing their jobs, according to a layoff notice filed with the state last week.

"The entire UNFI warehouse operation is being closed, and we expect the layoffs at UNFI will be permanent," the letter reads.

The Portland Business Journal reports the company is closing five locations and consolidating operations at two facilities in Washington. United Natural Foods, Inc. is a primary supplier of Whole Foods.

The company said it expects all of those Milwaukie employees to be laid off by July.

The company said some drivers, regional operators and administrative employees will keep their jobs and work remotely or at a nearby office space.
