OSP Investigating Incident That Resulted In Highway Chase, Deadly Force

Oregon State Police are investigating an incident that temporarily shut down a 1-mile stretch of Highway 30 Wednesday as officers pursued a suspect involved in a shooting at a gas station in St. Helens.

Oregon State Police said an officer used deadly force resulting in the death of 32-year-old Michael Veatch after he ditched his car near milepost 35 and fled on foot. The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave.

Oregon State Police said they’re investigating reports that the suspect fired shots during the chase.

In a statement, state police said the incident was “very dynamic,” involving several crime scenes, witnesses and a mountain of evidence.
