Grandmas-In-Chief

This week the nation's Grandma-In-Chief, Marian Robinson, moved into the White House. The move might only be temporary, but it lead us to wonder about the role grandparents are playing in the lives of their grandchildren today.

There are around 2.5 million grandparents responsible for raising a grandchild in the country, and over 20,000 in Oregon alone. These include families where the child's parents are around, but the grandparent is the primary caregiver. In around half of these cases (both nationally and locally) the child's parents are not present.

Do you work full time and leave your kids with your parents? Do you raise your grandchildren because your child is facing legal, or medical, problems? Were you raised by your grandparents? What happens when grandparents play a major role in raising their kids' kids?
