Holcombe Waller says his collaborative piece, "Requiem Mass: LGBT / Working Title," is intended to be just what the first part of the name implies: religious ritual music to remember the dead. However, Waller says the piece also acknowledges that the "LGBT" people who are being remembered, are not adequately captured by those letters, and he thinks that way of referring to gender and sexual diversity will ultimately pass on.
The piece is playing this weekend, commissioned as part of the 13th Time-Based Art (TBA) Festival put on by PICA, the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art.
