As climate scientists warn of significant climate change-related changes to the world's ocean, Oregon pushes action on ocean acidification and hypoxia.

Researchers in the Pacific Northwest have found that elevated levels of carbon dioxide in the ocean could have a profound effect on salmon. 

The oceans off Oregon and Washington are ground zero for ocean acidification, and Northwest scientists are working on new ways to adapt.

The more carbon dioxide in the air, the more acidic oceans become – preventing oysters and tiny marine snails at the base of the food chain from forming shells. 

The Pacific Northwest faces a higher risk of economic harm from ocean acidification than other parts of the country, according to a new study.
