A Greener Future For Oysters?

Oyster farming is a more than $100 million industry in Oregon and Washington. But concerns over the impact of ocean acidification on oyster production has many in the industry worried about the future.

When eelgrass in the shallows photosynthesize, they take up carbon dioxide out of water, raising the pH. Could planting eelgrass in proximity to commercial oyster operations mitigate acidification and help the broader estuarine ecosystems in the process?
