By Removing A Derelict Fence, Volunteers Make Way For Wildlife

There are no cows left on Pine Creek Conservation Area, northeast of Bend.

But there is barbed wire fence.  

Soon part of the conservation area will become federally protected wilderness, and backcountry volunteers are racing against that deadline to remove the derelict fence from the land — before wilderness restrictions make an arduous task even more difficult.
