In the 1880’s Lung On, with his partner “Doc” Ing Hay, established Kam Wah Chung in Tiger Town (today’s John Day); Oregon’s second largest Chinatown. Lung On was highly educated, charismatic, and an astute businessman. What started as a business to cater to the many varied needs of the Chinese population grew into the center of medical care in the area, serving both Chinese and Whites which was very unusual for the time.

Watch the Oregon experience documentary “Kam Wah Chung” to learn more about Lung On’s unique role in Oregon.
