Portland Police confirmed Wednesday that it investigated allegations that former Vice President Al Gore sexually attacked a woman when he was in Portland four years ago.

The police released a transcript of an interview with an unidentified woman who claimed Al Gore assaulted her sexually in 2006. She said she went to Hotel Lucia in 2006 to give Gore a massage, and he became sexually aggressive.

The Portland police release followed the publication of a brief report on The National Enquirer website.

Documents show the woman’s attorney approached police several weeks after the alleged attack, but she and her lawyer then missed three appointments with investigators.

Eventually, the woman’s lawyer told police his client didn't want a criminal investigation, and would pursue the matter in civil court.

In 2009, the woman returned to Portland police and told investigators she wanted to make a statement, detailing Gore’s alleged sexual advances.

Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Shrunk says he knew about the case in 2006 but didn't prosecute because the woman was unwilling to proceed.

Shrunk also says that if the police bureau and the woman want to pursue a criminal prosecution, more investigation needs to be conducted.

Calls and e-mails to Gore's office were not immediately returned.
