The Jack Fire that started on July 5 in Douglas County is still burning, and is only 51% contained.
The human-caused fire has burned about 24,000 acres on Umpqua National Forest land. It was more than 60 percent contained by late-July, but windy and stormy weather conditions set firefighters back.
Lightning caused almost 40 new fires nearby. Now the Jack Fire is being managed along with what’s called the Rough Patch Complex to the north, and the rest of those fires are only 3 percent contained.
About 600 firefighters are still working to suppress the fire complex. Altogether the fires have grown to nearly 50,000 acres. The complex is not expected to be fully contained until October.
