A strike authorization vote means that leadership has the power to call a strike if negotiations don’t bear fruit. It doesn’t mean a strike will definitely be called.

United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555 has been in negotiations for a new contract since July 2021.

Fred Meyer and QFC are both subsidiaries of national retail food giant, The Kroger Co.

In a press release, UFCW 555 says Fred Meyer wasn’t providing information necessary to negotiate a new agreement. It calls on the corporation to pay its employees better wages.

The union will continue bargaining with Fred Meyer and QFC through Dec. 16.
