In May 2018, Porter drove onto a sidewalk and hit one woman at Southwest 6th Avenue and Montgomery Street near the PSU campus in downtown Portland. Then he continued driving and hit two more women. Court records showed one woman suffered life-threatening injuries, another woman had a lacerated liver and spleen. A third victim suffered a fractured leg.

Witnesses also reported that Porter attempted to hit a group of males but was thwarted by a MAX train.

Porter was sent to Oregon State Hospital after his arrest, but last year was found competent to stand trial. Now he will be committed for 20 years under the jurisdiction of the state Psychiatric Security Review Board.

He was also sentenced concurrently to 15 years in prison.

Court records show Porter didn’t have any significant prior criminal history prior to the incident.
