Fleet Foxes closes out PDX Live summer concert series

The Indie folk band took over downtown Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square on Thursday

Lead singer Robin Pecknold opens the set for Fleet Foxes in Portland on Aug. 24, 2023. The latest Fleet Foxes album was an solo album by Pecknold, made without his bandmates during the 2020 pandemic but still under the band name.

Christian Wargo of Fleet Foxes carries the bassline for the beginning of their Portland concert. Wargo joined Fleet Foxes in 2008 and has been a part of every studio album released by the band since.

Fleet Foxes and opening act Uwade assemble at the front of the stage through the pouring artificial smoke. Fleet Foxes' album "Shore" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album last year.

Christopher Icasiano keeps the beat for Fleet Foxes in their Portland show. Icasiano is the newest member to the Fleet Foxes touring group, added in 2022.

Indie folk band Fleet Foxes took over Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland on Thursday with a performance that brought their Grammy-nominated albums “Helplessness Blues” and “Shore,” to the forefront. While the concert was part of the band’s national tour, it also closed the 2023 edition of the PDX Live summer concert series.

Fleet Foxes opened the show with “Sun Giant,” a track from their 2008 EP of the same name. The set list included the band’s popular hits like “Mykonos” and “Wadin in Waist-High Water,” which featured collaborator and opening artist Uwade.

Fleet Foxes, which consists of Robin Pecknold, Skyler Skjelset, Casey Wescott, Christian Wargo and Morgan Henderson, is from Seattle. The band was nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album in 2012 for “Helplessness Blues” and then for Best Alternative Music Album in 2022 for “Shore.”

For three weeks, PDX Live brought artists such as Explosions in the Sky, beabadoobee, Patti Smith and many more to “Portland’s Living Room.” This was the event’s second year.
