Two men killed in shootings involving Oregon law enforcement officers Thursday

A man was shot and killed by police in Hillsboro. In Rockaway Beach, police said officers were involved in a shooting and a man is dead, but they released few details.

UPDATE: After reviewing body camera footage, Beaverton police said Tuesday that Richard Herinckx aimed his gun at officers. But he did not fire the gun, as police stated in the initial press release.

UPDATE 2: The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office posted more details about the shooting in Rockaway Beach on the afternoon of the day after it happened. On Facebook, the sheriff’s office said a deputy and Oregon State Trooper responded a report of a man throwing bricks through the windows of a residence while he also possibly held a bar or pipe in his hand. While interacting with the man, one or both of the law enforcement officers shot him. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police officers in Hillsboro shot and killed a man who fired a handgun at them Thursday afternoon, according to the Beaverton Police Department.

The officers were attempting to arrest Richard Herinckx,39, on charges including criminal mischief and stalking, police said in a press release. Herinckx ran into a home on Southeast Duke Drive and refused to exit, according to police.

When tactical teams returned to the home with a warrant, police said Herinckx came out and shot at them. Officers returned fire, hitting Herinckx several times. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.

Separately, a man died after a shooting incident involving law enforcement officers in Rockaway Beach on Thursday. The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office released few details, citing an active investigation.

Sheriff Joshua Brown said in a Facebook post Thursday night that no officers were seriously injured.
