The Coast Guard has called off its search off the Oregon Coast near Cannon Beach, and as of Friday morning said there were no signs of distress in the area.
Coast Guard crews originally started the search for a possible sunken vessel Thursday night, after people reported seeing four or five flares from shore.
Search crews found what they thought might be debris in the water, but they later determined it was general garbage, according to a post on social media site X.
After searching Thursday night into Friday morning, they called off the search.
UPDATE: #USCG has suspended its search off Cannon Beach, OR, after report of a flare sighting at 9:30 PM last night. CG air and boat crews searched overnight and into this morning, with no signs of distress found. Initially reported boat debris, determined to be general garbage.
