A 26-year-old murder suspect mistakenly released from the Multnomah County Detention Center on Monday was arrested Thursday afternoon in Florence.
Ty Anthony Sage faces charges of murder and robbery in connection with the 2021 death of a 15-year-old in Gresham.

According to a press release Thursday, police have re-arrested Ty Anthony Sage, a 26-year-old murder suspect who deputies mistakenly released Monday from the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Sage was charged and arrested in May, but sheriff staff at the county’s downtown jail allowed him to post bail on Monday.
“Ty Sage should never have been able to post bail,” Multnomah County Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell said in a statement Thursday announcing the arrest. “To the family of Lowgunn Ivey, the young man killed, I want to acknowledge the fear and trauma that this mistaken release has caused.”
During an interview this spring, Sage admitted to detectives that he was part of a plan to rob Ivey, but according to court records, he said, “it was never supposed to go down like that.”
A news conference in Portland Wednesday about the mistaken release ended abruptly after reporters continued to ask the sheriff about the safety of Ivey’s family after Sage was released.
Sage was arrested around 1 p.m. with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Taskforce, at a gas station along Highway 101, according to the sheriff’s office. No force was used.
The circumstances that allowed for Sage’s release are under investigation, Morrisey O’Donnell has said.
She did not provide new details Thursday about how Sage was allowed to post bail. The sheriff has said staff acted in “good faith” and also accepts full responsibility for the error.

The Multnomah County Jail and justice center is located in downtown Portland, Oregon.
