From Portland to Chicago to Texas, President Trump’s push for military forces in American cities is ramping up in the courts and in the streets of multiple American cities.

In both Portland and Chicago, protesters are demonstrating against Trump’s effort to mobilize National Guard troops to the cities. The president has described both cities as “war zones.”

National Guard troops from other states were directed to activate in both Portland and Chicago, although that is currently paused due to court rulings.

On the Oct. 10 episode of “OPB Politics Now,” OPB reporters Dirk VanderHart and Lauren Dake talked with public media reporters in Chicago and Houston about the situation there.

WBEZ’s Arcaceli Gómez-Aldana and The Texas Newsroom’s Lucio Vasquez discussed the situation in their communities, how immigration is center to the conflict and what the politics are currently like in their states.
